Ways to Enjoy Joy Oi Coffee

Joy-Oi Coffee Mixes

The traditional Vietnamese method of brewing coffee consists of a special metal filter placed directly on top of the cup or glass. Coarsely ground beans go into a French drip filter (called a phin), which sits on top of the cup.The beans are weighted down with a thin lid, hot water is added to the phin, the brewed coffee slowly trickles through into the cup. Today Vietnamese coffee is so versatile it can be used in anything from your home plunger to espresso machines and stove top percolators.

Other styles of Vietnamese coffee you may enjoy with Joy oi products are.

Coffee with milk (Cà Phê nau or Cà Phê Sữa)

A dark, strong brew with sweetened condensed milk, a practice that began because the French couldn't easily acquire fresh milk. In the north of Vietnam, the mixture of black coffee and sweetened condensed milk is referred to as “Cà Phê nau” (brown coffee), while in the south it’s called “Cà Phê Sữa” (milk coffee). While it is mostly served cold with ice, you can also enjoy it hot.

Yoghurt coffee (Sữa Chua Cà Phê)

Yoghurt was originally brought to Vietnam by the French and has been adopted into local culinary tradition. Rich and creamy, it’s served with various toppings, from fresh mango to fermented rice. The rich yoghurt pairs amazingly well with a drizzle of black coffee – just stir and sip.

Egg coffee (CÀ PHÊ TRỨNG)

A Hanoi invention, egg coffee first made the scene in the 1940s, when milk was scarce during the war and egg yolks provided a convenient replacement. Egg yolk is whipped with condensed milk into an airy froth and poured onto dark coffee to make this rich concoction: think of it as a Vietnamese take on tiramisu.

Unique Vietnamese Coconut Coffee (Cà Phê Cốt Dừa)

Vietnamese Coconut Coffee (Cà Phê Cốt Dừa) is an interesting drink that has the intensity and aroma of coffee and the subtle richness of coconut milk. This strong and velvety coffee is definitely a must-try.

Avocado Smoothie (Cà phê sinh tố bơ)

Avocados are not eaten as much in Vietnam, but we do love them and use them almost exclusively in drinks and desserts. One of the most common things we use avocados for in Vietnam is to make smoothies. The high fat content and versatile mild flavor of the avocado is a superstar smoothie ingredient. Sweet and ultra creamy, avocado smoothies made with condensed milk are truly heavenly and addictive to me.
